Explore Albanian from Corfu in 6 days, on a tour which combines the exploration and visits in historical and archaeological sites with tradition and culture. You will travel with our experienced local guides and stay in our selected accommodations, meet locals, enjoy local food and explore everyday life and history and enjoy the the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Riviera.
General itinerary: Saranda harbor – Butrinti – Blue Eye – Gjirokastra – Apollonia – Berat – Tirana – Kruja – Shkoder – Durres – Ardenica – Vlora – Llogara – Himara – Panormi – Saranda harbor
Our representative will meet you at the harbor of Saranda. Next we will drive towards the archaeological park of Butrinti which is an UNESCO World Heritage listed site. It started as a Greek colony in the VI Century BC and it is now the best archaeological sites in Albania. We will start our tour from the main public, ending at the museum of the park located on top of the hill overlooking the Corfu channel.
In the second part of the day we will drive towards the historical town of Gjirokastra which is an UNESCO World Heritage listed town. On the way we will visit the Blue Eye natural springs park. Our visit in Gjirokastra will include the XIV century fortress and the old bazaar.
Overnight in Gjirokastra
After breakfast we will drive towards the Archaeological park of Apollonia where we will explore the ruins of the ancient town of Apollonia which was founded by the Corinthians in the VII century BC, and grue to become on of the biggest Geek colonies in the Adriatic sea coast. Our visit will include the main public area of the town and the museum of the park located within the XIII century monastery.
In the afternoon we will drive towards historical town of Berat where we will cehck in our accommodation located in the old part of the town.
Overnight in Berat
After breakfast we will explore the old town of Berat located within the walls of the IV century BC fortress where we will visit the old christian orthodox cathedral and the Onufry Byzantine icon’s gallery.
In the second part of the day we will drive towards the Tirana, the capital of Tirana. After a visit in the center of Tirana where we will visit the Ethem Bej mosque (XVIII century) we will continue towards the historical town of Kruja where we will check in our hotel for today.
Overnight in Kruja
In the first part of the day we will visit the old town of Kruja, located within the walls of the XVI century fortress where we will visit the Skenderbeg museum and the Ethnographic museum. In the second part of the day we drive we will drive north towards the town of Shkodra where we will visit the fortress of Shkodra (IV century BC), located on a hill overlooking the lake of Shkodra and the highlands of Albania. In the afternoon we will check in our hotel located in the town of Shkodra.
Overnight in Shkodra
After breakfast we will South, towards the historical town of Durres which is the oldest town in Albania, founded in the VII century BC by the Corinthians and was the capital of Albania until 1920. Our visit in Durres will include the Archaeological museum (one of the best in the country) and the Roman amphitheater build in the II century AD.
In the second part of the day we will drive towards the town of Vlora. On the way we will visit the christian orthodox monastery of Ardenica where we will visit the XIII century which has one of the best wooden carved iconostasis and icons in the country, and walls covered in colorful frescoes. In late afternoon we will check in our hotel in the town of Vlora.
Overnight in Vlora
In the first part of the day we will drive south, through the Llogara national park on the way to Saranda. We will drive through the region of Himara on the Ionian Rivera. We will visit the fortress of Ali Pasha (XIX century) located in the middle of Panormi bay (also known as Porto Palermo), a rare example of french military architecture in Albania. In the afternoon we will arrive in the harbor of Sranda where you will take the ferry boat back to the island of Corfu.
